High Expectations

Hello fellow students. My name is Ali-Abbas and I have just started the MSc Finance Programme here at the Business School. Previously, I studied Economics at Warwick University.

Having been interested in Finance from an early age I applied to the Masters programme to really fill the gaps in my technical knowledge before launching into a career in Investment Banking. After interning at Morgan Stanley over the summer I realised that a Masters degree in Finance would really help me to advance within the field as well as differentiate myself in the recruitment process.

My plan was always to come back to work in London after my undergraduate degree but Imperial’s reputation, partnership with the CFA Institute and top ranked Finance Programme in London, made it an unmissable opportunity.

A New Journey Begins…

Hello to all who are reading this, my name is Nirvair Vig but I’m known as Niv. I am a first time blogger and will definitely learn from this blogging experience as I hope you all will to as I aim to give you a sense of how it’s like studying at the Imperial College Business School. I am a student on the MSc Risk Management and Financial Engineering course class 2012-13 and I am very much enjoying my experiences on the course so far. I have only been here 7 weeks but time is flying. Within this time, I have attended over 20 events (mainly consisting of presentations from investment banks), attended some of the most interesting lectures and have also managed to become student ambassador and academic representative for the RMFE course this year.

Move Along!

So. 4 weeks done. Week 5 begins today… and boy, does it feel longer than 4 weeks that I have been here…it feels like 4 months!

What’s happening?… plenty! This week is assignment week to the max. We have a debate tomorrow for Health Informatics, a presentation in Marketing and a report to hand-in for Accounting next week. Basically this means a lot of group meetings, unhealthy food, coffee and blood/sweat/tears!! Nope, I’m just joking. We’re all actually doing quite well. We planned our meetings and what bits of the assignment who will be working on in advance to avoid last minute surprises and such like…so hopefully it will all go smoothly.

Get to know me

In this very first post, I guess it is only appropriate for me to introduce myself. As you’ve probably already figured out, I’m Traci – female Traci like Tracy Chapman and not Tracy Morgan or Dick Tracy.

Though clarification at times can be necessary when you’re called Traci and you apparently sound like your brother, the great thing about having a unisex name is that you can get that brother to pay your bills, answer surveys, and do your banking all by phone for you with very little questions asked. Coming from a country where privacy laws make it nearly impossible for anyone other than yourself to set up your phone or internet connection, it’s such a relief to have the option of being a man some days.
