The application process and supporting documentation

1 – Online Application

Make a formal application to the programme through our online application system.

2 – References

We request two references, at least one of which must be professional (the other may be professional or academic). References can be submitted in two ways:

  • Online – the online application form generates an automatic reference request email that is sent directly to your referee. Your referee must respond to the automatic reference request using a professional email address.
  • By post – you can personally request that your referee submits a hard copy reference on headed company paper, signed and posted to the Recruitment Team at the address below:

Imperial College Business School
Imperial College London
South Kensington Campus
London SW7 2AZ
United Kingdom

3 – Official degree transcripts

We also evaluate your academic background as part of your application. You will need to submit electronic copies of full degree transcripts (and English translations if necessary) for any degrees you have completed (undergraduate or postgraduate) or relevant qualifications.

4 – Personal statement

Your personal statement provides an opportunity to demonstrate your suitability for the Global Online MBA programme. Typically your personal statement should be one side of A4 and include your motivations for applying to Imperial and the MBA, and any other supporting information not included elsewhere on the form that you feel will enhance your application.

5 – Career planning essays

We ask you to write two short essays on your career plans and your longer term career goals and objectives. Your answers should clearly demonstrate the research that you have done into your chosen career path, how the Global Online MBA will fit into your overall career and an understanding of the area or sector that you wish to work in.

6 – CV

To help us evaluate your suitability for the programme, we require a full and up-to-date CV. You can use our CV template as a guide, and you can find this with the application form.

7 – English language test results (if applicable)

If you’re not a native English-speaker, you may be required to take an English language test (see entry requirements for accepted tests and required scores). You may submit your application form before you have obtained English language test results.

8 – Video pitch (optional)

The video pitch is an opportunity for you to share with us anything you haven’t mentioned in your supporting statements. It helps you to consolidate your motivations for studying an online MBA, and to set yourself apart from other candidates. It’s also an important way for the Recruitment Team to see more of your personality and gauge if the programme is right for you.

If you choose to prepare a video, you will need to post it on YouTube (or YouKu if you are based in China) and allow us access to it by providing a private link to it on your application.
